International Cooperation Highlights

Guangdong Institute for International Strategies


Introduction:

In an effort to advance international cooperation and push forward the PRIME initiative of GDUFS as a whole, GIIS launched a number of programmes and activities throughout the previous quarter. GIIS has made major strides towards internationalisation owing to the support of the GDUFS International Office.


Part 1. International Conferences


01: Prof. Sui Guangjun gave master classes in the first “Russian-Chinese Forum ROSTKI”



On September 7-8, 2023, the first “Russian-Chinese Forum ROSTKI” (Первый международный форум «РОСТКИ: Россия и Китай – взаимовыгодное сотрудничество».) was held in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. Prof. Sui Guangjun, President of GIIS, Prof. Chen Weiguang, and Prof. Yang Ke, were invited to the Forum.


During the event, Prof. Sui Guangjun gave a master class entitled “Strategic Spatial Planning Adjustment” to Chinese and Russian entrepreneurs, experts in the field of economy, university students and representatives from all walks of life during the forum. Also, Prof. Sui Guangjun gave an exciting and informative master class on “Historical Stage of China's Opening-up to the World, Development Pattern and Opening-up of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area to the World” to the Russian audience.


02: Professor Li Qing participated in the webinar "Decoupling or Bridging Civilizations: A Call for a Global Civilization Initiative"



Professor Li Qing, Executive President of GIIS, was invited to the webinar "Decoupling or Bridging Civilizations: A Call for a Global Civilization Initiative" on the afternoon of June 28, 2023, and she gave a keynote address titled "Mutual Enhancement of Civilizations in China and Europe."


Cui Ai'min, the Chinese ambassador to Sweden, Mironchik, the Belarusian ambassador to Sweden, as well as specialists from India and Europe participated in the webinar hosted by the Belt and Road Institute in Sweden (BRIX), which focused on the coexistence and advancement of human civilizations.


03: "The Belt and Road Initiative Tenth Anniversary" Siam Summit



On 7th August, the international symposium and joint report launching conference of "The Belt and Road Initiative Tenth Anniversary" Siam Summit: Oriental Values and Research on Chinese Enterprises’ Development in Thailand” was jointly hosted by the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), Guangdong Institute for International Strategies (GIIS), Siam Think Tank (STT) of Thailand, and Panyapiwat Institute of Management (PIM) of Thailand.


04: Research visit to Thai-Chinese Rayong Industrial Estate



On 8th August 2023, Prof. Cheng Yonglin, Deputy Director of Collaborative Innovation Center for 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Studies (MSRSCIC), led a delegation to Thai-Chinese Rayong Industrial Estate for academic conference.


Part 2. Internationalised Talent Cultivation


01: Students working in international organizations



As of 30th June 2023, Ms. Huang Shexiu, a student from the Campus EuroAsia Project, has been accepted by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) as an intern in the Investment Promotion Department of the UNCTAD headquarters in Geneva from June to December 2023.


Another student of the Campus EuroAsia Project, Ms. Zheng Dan’ni, has been offered by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to work as an intern at the ICAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (Bangkok, Thailand) from July 2023 to January 2024.


Also, Ms. Shen Jiaxin of the Campus EuroAsia Project is to work at the Young Professionals for Agricultural Development (YPARD), an organization under the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations from June to December 2023.


Their hard work has won them opportunities to work at international organizations, and their experience will enrich the Campus EuroAsia Project.


02: “Ten Thousand Talents” Programme Successfully Launched in GIIS, GDUFS



From 10 to 14 July, the 2023 Mainland-Hong Kong-Macau Teachers and Students Exchange & Collaboration Programme of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area High-tech Industry Cluster Exchange Camp and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and Global Economic Governance Innovation and Practice Summer Camp successfully concluded. Organised by Guangdong Institute for International Strategies (GIIS) and Huangpu Institute of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), nearly 30 students from GDUFS, Fuzhou University, City University of Macau, City University of Hong Kong, etc. gathered at the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (CSGKC). The programme participants visited high-tech industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and participated in a series of academic exchange events.


03: Two graduate students of GIIS participated in The 2023 Lien International Conference on Good Governance



The 2023 Lien International Conference on Good Governance was held in Singapore on 25th-26th August, organized by the Nanyang Centre for Public Administration, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and the Lien Ying Chow Legacy Fellowship.


The biennial Lien International Conference on Good Governance brought together more than 300 scholars, experts and researchers from more than 20 countries to discuss topics related to public governance, public goods and public services. Two graduate students of GIIS, Tan Shuting and Shen Xiaonan, were invited to participate in the conference and report their academic papers.


Part 3. International Programs and Exchange


01: Symposium with the Confucius Institute at Lancaster University  



On 30th June, Amily Wang, Vice President of Confucius Institute at Lancaster University, visited GIIS for academic exchanges and discuss cooperation projects. Prof Han Yonghui, Vice President of Collaborative Innovation Center for 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Studies (MSRSCIC), and Dr. Peng Keming, Foreign Affairs Secretary of GIIS, attended the event. Both sides agreed to carry out in-depth cooperation in scientific research, teacher-student exchange and programme co-construction.


02: Working Meeting with Emlyon Business School, France



On the afternoon of 3rd August, Professor Gong Yeming, Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence Management, Emlyon Business School, France, and his delegation visited GIIS.


Professor Li Qing, Executive President of GIIS, Zhou Peng, Director of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation, Jiang Xi, Director of the Department of Network and New Media of the School of Journalism and Communication, Cheng Qiguang, Director of the Office of the Huangpu Institute, and others participated in the meeting.


During the meeting, the two sides carried out in-depth exchanges on talent cultivation, scientific research and cooperation in running schools.


03: GIIS held an academic exchange activity with the British Consulate General in Guangzhou



On 30th August, GIIS held an academic exchange activity with the British Consulate General in Guangzhou. Sarah Mann, Consul General of the British Consulate General in Guangzhou and her delegation had an in-depth discussion with Professor Zhou Fangyin, Vice President of GIIS, on the topics of Sino-British politics, diplomacy, economic and trade co-operation and humanistic exchanges.


04:GIIS and the British Embassy in Beijing held an academic exchange activity



On 5 September, GIIS and the British Embassy in Beijing held an academic exchange activity.


Sharon Fairsky, Second Secretary of the British Embassy in Beijing, and her team had an in-depth discussion with Associate Professor Lai Xueyi and others on topics such as the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Sino-British climate co-operation, and the co-operation in the field of Artificial Intelligence.


Bany Liu, Research and Programme Officer of the British Consulate General Guangzhou, and Peng Keming, Foreign Affairs Secretary of GIIS, also attended the exchange event.
