April & May -- International Cooperation Highlights

 From May 24 to June 2, Li Yunming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of GDUFS, and Professor Li Qing, Executive President of Guangdong Institute for International Strategies, paid an official visit to universities in Netherlands, Portugal and Italy for international cooperation and exchanges.

 

♦  In May, Ms Huang Shexiu was offered a position as an intern in the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

 

 On May 19th, the “Belt and Road” Initiative and China-Europe Global Governance Forum (2023) was held. GIIS and BRIX signed a letter of intent for cooperation and Mr. Hussein Askary, Vice President of BRIX, was appointed as the distinguished research fellow of GIIS.

 

 On May 18th, Mr. Hussein Askary gave lectures for reseachers and students.

 

 On May 17th, Mr. Hussein Askary received an interview.

 

 On May 5th, an academic exchange with the Australian Consulate General in Guangzhou was held at Guangdong Institute for International Strategies.

 

 On April 30th, GIIS was awarded 4 “Overseas Distinguished Expert Projects” sponsored by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.

 

♦ On April 23rd, the Deputy Consul General of Germany gave a lecture for students.

 

01: Prof. Li Qing Visited Netherlands, Portugal and Italy for High-calibre International Cooperation Projects

 

 

From May 24 to June 2, Li Yunming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of GDUFS, and Professor Li Qing, Executive President of Guangdong Institute for International Strategies, paid an official visit to universities in Netherlands, Portugal and Italy for international cooperation and exchanges. During the visit, they expanded and strengthened cooperation between Confucius Institutes, and opened up new high-calibre international cooperation projects.

 

02: Ms. Huang Shexiu: A New Intern in the UNCTAD


In May, Ms. Huang Shexiu, a student of the Campus EuroAsia Project of GIIS, was offered a position as an intern in the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

 

 

03: “Belt and Road” Initiative and China-Europe Global Governance Forum (2023)

 

 

On May 19ththe “Belt and Road” Initiative and China-Europe Global Governance Forum (2023) was held at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. With the theme of “Cultural Exchange and High Quality Development”, the Forum was co-organized by Guangdong Institute for International Strategies (GIIS), Aalborg University of Denmark, the Belt and Road Institute in Sweden (BRIX), Huangpu Institute of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Collaborative Innovation Center of 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Studies, and the Center for European Studies of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Experts, scholars and industry representatives from around the world gathered to discuss the “Belt and Road” initiative and the new developments and future global governance trends between China and Europe.

 

04: Cooperation between GIIS and BRIX

 

 

On May 19th, at the “Belt and Road” Initiative and China-Europe Global Governance Forum (2023), GIIS and BRIX signed a letter of intent for cooperation and Mr. Hussein Askary, Vice President of BRIX, was appointed as the distinguished research fellow of GIIS. The appointment of Mr. Hussein Askary marked a milestone of cooperation between the two institutes in the field of the Belt and Road Initiative and Sino-European global governance research.

 

 

05: Lectures from Mr. Hussein Askary


 

On the morning of May 18th, Mr. Hussein Askary gave the 328th Yunshan Academic Salon on the Economics of the “Belt and Road” Initiative. Later, a workshop on “Think Tank Voices on International Public Opinion Platforms” was held for researchers of the GIIS. 

 

 

In the afternoon, we held the 329th Yunshan Academic Salon, and Mr. Hussein Askary gave a lecture on “How to encounter disinformation about China and the BRI”. A total of 100 participants engaged in the lectures.

 

06: Interview with Mr. Hussein Askary

 

 

On the morning of May 17thMr. Hussein Askary, Vice President of BRIX, visited GIIS and received an interview from our students. Mr. Askary gave detailed answers to the questions raised by the students about the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Europe relations.

 

 

07: Academic Exchange with the Australian Consulate General in Guangzhou


 

On May 5th, an academic exchange with the Australian Consulate General in Guangzhou was held at Guangdong Institute for International Strategies. Mr. Anthony Aspden of the Australian Consulate General in Guangzhou and his delegation had an in-depth discussion with Professor Zhou Fangyin, Vice President of the Institute, on topics such as China-Australia economic and trade cooperation and humanistic exchanges.

 

08: "Overseas Distinguished Expert Projects" Launched


On April 30th, GIIS was awarded 4 “Overseas Distinguished Expert Projects” sponsored by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. With the support of the International Office of GDUFS, GIIS will focus on the strategic objectives of the Project, attract global talents, leverage international wisdom, carry out in-depth international exchange and cooperation, and strengthen the discipline construction and talent cultivation of our university. 

 

09: Lecture from Deputy Consul General of Germany


On April 23rd, we invited the Deputy Consul General of Germany in Guangzhou to give a lecture entitled “Culture and Society in Germany and China-German Relations” at the Yunshan Academic Salon. Nearly 50 students from the GIIS and the School of European Languages and Cultures attended.
